Wow! What a book!
This book is a great read for anyone whether Gay,Lesbian,Bisexual, or even straight. Its a good book for anyone discovering themselves. The book is real, and the stories are believable. Everyone everyone everyone should read it!

Every school library should have a copy.
The stories in this book are diverse, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, sometimes both; but although they are not preachy, there is a message that underlies all of them: you are not alone. I highly recommend this book for use in high schools -- it handles the subject of homosexuality in a variety of ways, from many points of view, so that anyone can find something they can identify with. "Parents' Night" made me cry at the end. Twice. And I never cry. The title story is hilarious. Yes, it's an allegory, but it's a funny allegory. Great for kids who are gay or questioning, and great for kids who aren't.

Something for Everyone: let's break down the stereotypes!
This book is a must read for everyone: gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, or questioning. It is an interesting and instightful anthology of short stories that will open your eyes and mind. It includes stories, from funny to serious and happy to sad, by world renound and timeless writers such as Jaqueline Woodson and M.E. Kerr.

Turtles into Butterflies
Turtles into Butterflies is a marvelous tale for children and adults alike. Turtle is an inspiration to us all, overcoming self-doubt and finding self-love. This book teaches children to accept themselves in spite of their differences with others. It teaches children that they can appreciate the qualities of others without having to give up who they are to become someone they're not. It is a helpful reminder for adults that we should be ourselves and teach our children their value through our own living examples. This book is filled with lovely illustrations and exciting adventures as turtle learns that he is beautiful. This book also teaches the value of friendship. It is important for kids to learn that sometimes friendship entails uplifting our friends when they are feeling down. I am grateful to Dane for writing a book that teaches children the value of self-love in a fun, creative and adventurous way.

If your looking for a dane or own a dane....
BUY THIS BOOK! I had purchased and read over a dozen books in preparation for bringing my puppy home, and this by far is the best.

The section on choosing a breeder is wonderful, and has some very important information you need to know before you buy a Dane from someone.

Bottom line, get it, read it, keep it for reference.

Great Starter Information and Fun to Read
I loved this book. I learned enough in the care section to save at least one trip to the vet (normal stuff that doesn't seem so - callouses for big dogs). This book was fun to read, in addition to being so informative. Great for better understanding my Great Dane.

Great Dane Help
This was a very informative and helpful book. The Author provides keen insight into the care, responsibilities and phsyche of the Apollo of dogs.

Cat on Wheels
Published in School & Library Binding by Boyds Mills Pr (September, 2000)
Authors: Larry Dane Brimner and Mary Peterson
Average review score:

Lots of Fun
Brimner's Cat on Wheels offers young readers and listeners lots of fun. A cat's sweet slumber is disrupted when "that Cooper boy rolls up, four wheels spinning." A child just beginning to test the laws of balance and gravity on a two-wheeler, the Cooper boy careens here and there, oblivious to the havoc he is injecting into the cat's life. The cat, in turn, imagines herself to be a skateboard daredevil and challenges the boy to a test of their skills. To the delight of cat-lovers everywhere, the cat triumphs in this David-vs.-Goliath fantasy. In fact, though, she simply seeks safety in the cozy lap of a more sedate friend while the Cooper boy meets the fate of anyone just learning to ride a bicycle. Brilliant, tropical, over-sized splashes of color illustrate this child-pleaser; kids will recognize themselves or friends in the Cooper boy and chuckle at the cat's imagined antics. Don't miss this one.

Pleasing to the Ear
There's not a missed beat in Brimner's Cat On Wheels. From opening to closing, the text weaves a tale of a cat's frustration with that Cooper boy, who is learning how to ride a two-wheeler and without much success. (Children will relate!) The lyrical prose is pleasing to the ear, while the pastel illustrations, simple and oversized, are sure to please the younger set. That the cat triumphs in the end is sure to make this a winner among feline lovers. The book lends itself nicely to classroom discussions about personal space and responsible action.

Stunning
In stunning language that is both rhythmic and poetic, Brimner sets a skateboard-riding feline against a youngster just learning to ride a bicycle with training wheels--four wheels against four wheels. This author WOWed us with Merry Christmas, Old Armadillo and If Dogs Had Wings, and his current offering is no less pleasing for imagery, language, and downright FUN. Kids will love it; my five-year-old reader certainly did.

Great service and new book in good condition
Service is great and the book arrived in new condition. Its a great resource for people willing to have a great dane puppy.

good breed specific
I purchased a great dane and really was looking for something breed specific to find information to help me to care for my dane correctly. It answered my questions very well and in easy to read and understand language. A must for any first-time dane owner. Many beautiful Dane pictures. And very economically priced.

Good Job
I like this book to loan people who are considering getting a dane, as well as keeping a copy for myself. I think it explains how wonderful they truly are, but also explains the responsibilities of owning this breed. In many ways, they're more like an exotic pet and do have special care requirements, which he explains. He tells of the ups and the downs and makes you realize that your life won't be the same and you must be sure that this is what you want. Of the two people I've loaned my spare copy to, one got a dane and adored it & another decided against it. And I have another person who wants to borrow it, as they're considering a dane. Very helpful to a new or prospective dane owner. Also has many beautiful, naturally-taken dane pictures throughout.

If You Were Born a Kitten
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2001)
Authors: Marion Dane Bauer and Joellen McAllister Stammen

The wonder of nature
This book should appeal to many age levels. My 18 month old begs for it over and over again. The illustrations are beautiful- soft and detailed with the animals filling up the whole page. The text is one or two sentences per page and he knows the names of the animals. For the older child the facts about each animal provide an introduction to the fascinating diversity of the natural world and a reference point leading to a discussion of his or her own birth.

Lovely book!
I read this beautifully illustrated book to my four-year-old son many times throughout my pregancy. The fact that he was born himself, just like the animals, pleased him immensely. I enjoyed reading it over and over because of the simple, charming words the author uses to describe birth. The whale mother nudges the baby whale up for its "first sip of air." The baby elephant wears "a halo of long, brown hair." And the human baby "rode curled beneath (its) mother's heart." What a wonderful, sweet way to explain the miracle of life to young children. It is also a great way to explain the different ways some animals are born. Daddy Seahorses give birth? Frogs have babies that don't look like them? It could lead to yet another trip to the library!

My son's baby sister is more than six months old, yet he still counts this book as one of his favorites. I highly recommend it!

the author has an almost magical way of describing birth.
With brief, but magical descriptions of the moments of birth for several animals, the author carries you into the special realization of the unique and magical love in human birth. The artist's fantastic pictures bring you into the world of each animal. A beautiful, and gentle introduction into the world of reproduction, without fear or discomfort. Complete innocence left unmarked, but with inspired appreciation for a true miracle.

Japanese Cabinetry: The Art & Craft of Tansu
Published in Hardcover by Gibbs Smith Publisher (15 November, 2002)
Authors: David Jackson and Dane Owen
Average review score:

The cover alone should be enough to interest you
Not even sure where to begin other than to say that as mentioned above, the cover alone should be plenty to strike your interest. As a true lover and collector of Japanese art, this book goes above and beyond to show just exactly why it could be labeled as a "coffee table book". It has been on mine for weeks now. It is such a great sourcebook for Japanese cabinetry/tansu and goes even further to show pieces actually used for daily use in people's homes. The size of the book and the photography are SO worth the price. It truly is a fabulous book. I strongly recommend it. Whether you are an obsessed collector of Japanese art or not, it is definitely a great book to have in your collection.

I Recommend this book.
I have been dealing in these sort of things for some time , yes.The collection displayed here is of good quality and is quite a nice representation of what's available.A good book .

Excellent Reference Guide.
I have fortunately been able to read an advance copy of this book . The book is well researched with more relevant detail on wooden Japanese Furniture than all previous publications combined. I was able to identify and date several pieces in my collection , as well as find out that I had been misled by some Japanese dealers with regard to age and origin . Now it is much easier to identify Tansu in it's historical context . Who would have guessed that Politics played an important part in Tansu usage and design , or that streets became clogged with Tansu during emergencies , causing many more deaths and the rewriting of local laws . This book tells it all.

Overwhelmingly Delightful!
I just finished reading "Amazing Gracie" last night and can't stop thinking about it. It still brings tears to my eyes as I think of the impact she had on Dan and Mark and all those she came in contact with. As I read the book and would finish each chapter, I kept thinking "surely this whole book can't maintain this wonderful level of humor and warmth" but I'm happy to say I was wrong. It never let's you down and you find yourself wrapped up in it like it's a mystery and you can't wait to see what will happen next.

I cried, I laughed out loud and I cheered for Dan, Mark and the girls. This book is full of hope and love and is an easy read for animal lovers of all ages. We will definitely be giving this book to friends and family for gifts and recommending it to everyone. Since Dan and Mark live in Kansas City, we had the pleasure of meeting them at a recent book signing and they are sincerely nice guys which makes the book all that more of a treasure. Makes Kansas City proud to have these 2 and their canine companions as residents.

An exceptionaly heartwarming story
What an amazing story. I fell in love with Gracie the moment I looked at the cover. I have never been so touched by a story before. If you love animals, then this is the book for you. Gracie and her sisters will make you laugh and cry throughout the book. Dan and Mark were and are truly blessed. I can not stress enough just how wonderful this book is. I am going around telling everyone to buy this book ,I have never done that before!! This book makes one realize just how blessed we are to be owned by a dog!! Wonderful reading!!

IF YOU LOVE DOGS, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
This is a wonderful book about an amazing dog named Gracie. In my opinion it is a must read for anyone. It is a book that will make you laugh and cry. Gracie's story will show you how animals can touch our lives and how blessed we are to have them in our midst. You will not be able to put this book down! Another thing, the royalties from this book go to The Gracie Foundation which is a non-profit emergency relief fund for neglected and abused animals. By reading this book, you will not only see how Gracie changed a man's life but you will help to carry on her memory by helping animals in need. Please take my advice and buy a copy right away- I don't think you will be sorry.

King Henry V
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (July, 1993)
Authors: William Shakespeare, Marilyn Bell, Elizabeth Dane, and John Dane
Average review score:

A brilliant play
Required to read Henry for my AP English Language class, I came into the play with a bias. I honestly felt that it would be a boring political play. I was utterly wrong! A huge fan of Shakespeare, I found Henry V to be a formidable match for the Bard's more critically acclaimed plays, such as Hamlet and Macbeth. Henry has it all! Shakespeare's attitude toward Henry the King is certainly one of admiration. By communicating the fact that an effective monarch must have a complete understanding of the common subjects (Pistol and Bardolph and Quickly), Shakespeare sets up Henry to be the ideal Christian king. The controlled language of Henry's speeches, particularly his response to the Dauphin's idiotic insult, also glorifies Henry. I certainly recommend this play to anyone, fan of Shakespeare or not.

Excellent Publication/Version (Arden Shakespeare)
I looked long and hard (and asked many a scholar) for the "perfect" Shakespeare publication that I might purchase to study "King Henry V" (for a experiential education requirement, I had undertaken the translation of Henry V into American Sign Language). The Arden Shakespeare came highly recommended by everyone, and has lived up entirely to all its rave reviews.

I will never buy Shakespeare from another publisher. While these books may be slightly more expensive than a "mass market" edition, I believe that if you are going to take the time to read and understand Shakespeare, it is well worth the extra dollar or two. The Introduction, the images, and plethora of footnotes are irreplaceable and nearly neccessary for a full understanding of the play (for those of us who are not scholars already). The photocopy of the original Quatro text in the appendix is also very interesting.

All in all, well worth it! I recommend that you buy ALL of Shakespeare's work from Arden's critical editions.

Profoundly Brilliant!
Written by Shakespeare for Queen Elizabeth I amidst a time of Irish rebellion, Henry V more than adequately serves its intended purpose of galvanizing nationalistic fervor. It proved itself to be an unwavering and unfaltering impetus of patriotism in Shakespeare's day, during WWII, and still today it continues to resonate and reverberate this provocatively telling tale of the most gloriously revered monarch in English history.

Henry V's stirring orations prior to the victorious battles of Harfleur("Once more unto the breach") and Agincourt("We few, we happy few, we band of brothers") astonish and inspire me every time I read them. Simply amazing. Having read Henry IV Parts I&II beforehand, I was surprised Shakespeare failed to live up to his word in the Epilogue of Part II in which he promised to "continue the story, with Sir John in it." The continuing follies of the conniving Bardolph, Nym, & Pistol and their ignominious thieving prove to be somewhat of a depricating underplot which nevertheless proves to act as a succinct metaphor for King Harry's "taking" of France.

Powerful and vibrant, the character of Henry V evokes passion and unadulterated admiration through his incredible valor & strength of conviction in a time of utter despondency. It is this conviction and passion which transcends time, and moreover, the very pages that Shakespeare's words are written upon. I find it impossible to overstate the absolute and impregnable puissance of Henry V, a play which I undoubtedly rate as the obligatory cream of the crop of Shakespeare's Histories. I recommend reading Henry IV I&II prior to Henry V as well as viewing Kenneth Branagh's masterpiece film subsequent to reading the equally moving work.
